Saying Yes, Saying No, Hearing Both

Consent is enthusiastic, ongoing, and reversible. That sounds clinical. In practice it sounds like: "is this okay?", "slow down", "yes, more of that", "actually, can we just hold each other for a minute?" None of those are awkward — they're the whole point.
A yes given out of pressure isn't a yes. A no given quietly is still a no. If something shifts mid-encounter, the conversation reopens. That's not killing the mood — that's what makes the mood real.
And on the other side of it: when someone tells you no, thank them. They did something hard, and they trusted you with the truth. The next yes you receive will be that much more meaningful for it.
